Parish Leadership

  • The Rev. George W. Dietrich

Pastor George has been leading the Hamptons Lutheran Parish since May 2017. Prior, Pastor George served congregations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. He earned his Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, now United Lutheran Seminary, where he is currently working towards a Doctor of Ministry. Pastor George is passionate about serving God’s children and supporting them along their spiritual journeys. Pastor George and his spouse Maria have four super awesome kiddos and enjoy the special scenery of Long Island’s East End, as well as rooting for the NY Rangers!

  • Thomas Bohlert, Organist

Thomas Bohlert joined the Hamptons Lutheran Parish as organist in February 2020, bringing a lifetime of musical leadership in churches in the New York area. He was previously director of music of First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton for 16 years, and has been accompanist for the Choral Society of the Hamptons. Thom is a music writer for the East Hampton Star and is on the editorial staff of The American Organist magazine, and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists. As a composer, some of his organ music and hymns are published by Selah Publishing, Hope Publishing, and Wayne Leupold Editions. He has studied at Wagner College, Mannes College of Music, and Manhattan School of Music. Thom enjoys exploring the mystical places where quantum physics and 21st-century science intersect with ancient wisdom and religious traditions; he practices tai chi and qigong, and likes to putter with the flower boxes around his house.

  • Synodical Deacon Herme Barbagallo

Herme moved into St. Michael's housing about eight years ago and swiftly found herself getting progressively more involved at the parish.  First by attending worship on Sunday mornings, then joining altar guild and becoming a Worship Assistant.  Herme reflects on the moment Pastor Foster gave her a key to the church building as a moment she felt a part of something bigger than herself, a great congregation that wanted her there. Later, Pastor George encouraged Herme to consider attending Diakonia.  Herme felt in her soul she wanted to become a deacon, that it had been planted on her heart.  Diakonia was two and a half fantastic years of studying with great pastors who were great teachers and alongside great classmates. The pandemic and illness interrupted the process a bit, but Herme shares May 7th as "the greatest day of my life," being set apart as Synodical Deacon.  It is her pleasure to assist at Incarnation alongside Pastor, to continue as a St. Michael's Council member, altar guild volunteer, and helping with the ministries of Deacon Susan.  It is her ambition to employ her bilingual skills to build ministries that serve the Hispanic community and bring the Good News in Spanish.

  • Susan Christoffersen, Incarnation Council President

Sue Christoffersen has been attending Incarnation Lutheran Church for about 30 years, since she was 5 (kidding, since her son was born 30 years ago) and has had various leadership positions including Treasurer, Secretary, general Council member and now Council President. Sue has a Ph.D. in economics from NYU, teaches economics and finance at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, but loves her friends and church family in Southampton and resides there as much as possible. At Incarnation, we are a small but committed church family with hope for the future and faith in God's guidance.

  • Synodical Deacon Susan Rossi

Susan became a member of St. Michael’s some 10 years ago. The loving welcome and acceptance that she felt kept her coming back week after week. Her faith journey began on that very first Sunday.

After serving as church council president, she was accepted into the diakonia and then the diaconate program. On April 14, 2018, Susan was set apart as a synodical deacon and serves as such at St. Michael’s. When needed she is happy to serve at our sister church, Incarnation, as well.

She loves ministry and has accepted God’s call to serve. Our soup kitchen (The Table), our church garden (Joyful Roots), visiting and bringing the Eucharist to our seniors and homebound, and teaching our young people are the ministries she enjoys working on. Along with others Susan serves as an assistant minister. Susan has said that serving alongside our pastor on the altar is a privilege and a gift like no other.

  • Gabrielle Scarpaci, St. Michael's Council President

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Gabrielle has lived on the eastern end of Long Island for over 24 years. Her first introduction to St. Michaels came in 2006, when she started working in affordable housing. Gabrielle was instrumental in getting St. Michael's Housing built, providing 40 apartments for low-income seniors. Gabrielle also served the East Hampton Food Pantry as its Executive Director for 10 years, which opened her eyes to the tremendous need for assistance in our community. She joined the church in 2015, hoping to expand upon her service to others in the East Hampton area. Gabrielle was a member of the church council for several years before becoming its president in 2020. She finds the love and support of her fellow congregants at St. Michael's to be one of the greatest blessings in her life. Gabrielle hopes to continue helping our community through her work with The Table, Maureen's Haven, God's Work Our Hands, among many other programs provided by St. Michael's Lutheran Church.
